In the face of the ongoing national crisis, Liberia’s number one GSM Company has announced yet another groundbreaking move aimed at providing relief to thousands of its valued and loyal customers.
Cellcom’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. John Vasikaran detailed that the company has initiated a new promotion which will mark a paradigm shift for mobile phone users in Liberia.
Vasikaran noted that after carefully reviewing the prevailing situation in the country, Cellcom had created a new program that will help thousands keep in touch with their families, regardless of their financial position and will also be a form of financial relief during Liberia’s difficult periods.
The new program code named “Good morning Liberia” enables Cellcom subscribers receive a 30 U.S. cents a day simply by dialing the code *030# between 6 AM to 9 AM to call within the Cellcom network.
Customers will be required to use the 30 cents during the allotted time frame of 6 to 9 AM. When initiated, the code will inject 30 cents a day or close to $10 per month to subscribers, enabling them to keep in touch with friends and family regardless of available credit balances.
Explained Mr. Vasikaran: “With all that is happening in Liberia, the first thing people want to do in the morning is to check on their family and loved ones. We do not believe that the absence of money on a mobile phone should hinder this type of meaningful communication,” said the emotionally charged Vasikaran.
“We want all of Liberia to wake up in the morning and know that they have a freely available balance to call whomever they choose in order to pray, share news, or simply check with each other.”
One of Cellcom’s owners and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Avi Zaidenberg enumerated that Cellcom had agreed to authorize the program in the interest of the Liberian people.
“We have put any idea of making a profit behind us and are taking this as a moment in history when we must offer everything we can to support Liberia in overcoming this crisis,” noted Mr. Zaidenberg. The new program, especially benefits populations of Liberia, whom may not have access to the resources of the ability to buy recharge cards to call family members and has no strings attached to it.
Corporate Communications Strategist Dr. Kimmie Weeks called the “Good Morning Liberia” program an ‘important move.’ He observed that traditionally, telecoms are based on the fundamentals of customers paying the GSM Company to make calls, but noted that in this stage of Liberian history, Cellcom was making a major business model shift by essentially paying its customers for being subscribers.
“Something incredible and unprecedented is happening in Liberia’s telecommunications market, and I am proud of this level of innovation from Cellcom,” said Dr. Weeks. The new promotion will run parallel to Cellcom’s ongoing current initiatives and promotions.
