The paper has been hinted that the Mount Coffee Hydropower Rehabilitation project resumes next month in preparation for the mobilization of project contractors in June 2015.

Recently, the Liberia Electricity Corporation signed an agreement with Joint Venture of Pan African Group, Sigma Group Inc and Mamba Point Hotel for Contract #5 for the Mount Coffee Hydropower Rehabilitation Project.

The contract includes among others, construction of camp accommodation and office facilities for workers on the Mount Coffee Project, with all corresponding infrastructure, provision of the camp services such as, site security, power, water, wastewater, catering, housekeeping, communication and waste disposal.

Before the outbreak of the deadly Ebola there was on-going work at the mount Coffee Hydropower, the Mount Coffee Hydropower was destroyed during the Liberian civil war.

The Rehabilitation also includes maintenance of existing structure, maintenance of the access roads to the site and camp as well as some geotechnical and early civil works in preparation for the main civil works contractor.

A statement from LEC said PSM-JV was awarded the contract following an international competitive bidding process.

LEC said it is gearing up to sign the transmission lines contract and the main civil works contract in the near term which will complete the main procurement activities for the project.

However, in a press chat with the media Monday President Sirleaf said earlier pronouncement by government to turn on the turbine at the Mount Coffee Hydro Power Plant to provide electricity to Monrovia and its environs by December 2015 would be delayed by one year.

She said the hydro will now be hopefully turned on by December 2016, pending the resumption of the project. She assured that government has already secured US$320 Million and turbine for the hydro has been manufactured.
