President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Friday dedicated a newly constructed market building in Mango Town, near Brewerville.
Speaking at the program, the Liberian leader described the construction of the market as the fulfillment of a promise to provide better working conditions for women of the area.
The President explained that the market was constructed with funds raised through voluntary contributions from friends and other well-wishers who want to identify with programs being supported by the Liberian leader.
President Sirleaf promised to encourage microcredit institutions to provide credit opportunities for market women of the area, to help improve their businesses. She again urged market women to help keep the premises clean, to attract more contributors. The new market building contains a modern toilet facility and a hand pump.
The occasion was graced by District #13 Commissioner Holmes; Paramount Chief Musa Kissi; Mango Town market Superintendent Sueah Tonzieah; and an eminent resident in the area, David Korti. They thanked the President for the new market building and promised to help keep the facilities clean.
The construction of the market followed a recent visit by the President to the area where she observed marketers selling in the open air. The construction project is estimated at US$25,000.
