Over 400 houses were damaged and 30 people wounded when a torrential rainstorm swept across the country Wednesday night. Counties now known to have been serious affected are Bomi, Nimba and Montserrado even though no death is yet reported.

In Bomi, over 300 houses in Tubmanburg, Gbah, Klay and other towns and villages were left roofless as the storm swept the county. A report monitored here said women, children and the elderly were gravely affected.

They are appealing to government and humanitarian organizations for help because families and friends could not accommodate them easily in their homes. In Montserrado, several public and private facilities, including billboards, electric poles, vehicles, a media houses, schools and residential quarters were affected by the rainstorm.

The Messiah Mission School in Paynesville was not spared. The School is currently host over 150 students writing this year’s West African Examinations. Rev.  Zubah Kollie, Head of the school told the media how the entire roof top was removed by the storm.

“With the damage done, we are appealing to the Education Ministry to urgently intervene in favor of the students who are writing their examinations here,” Kollie noted.

In central Monrovia, Radio Monrovia located on New port Street, Liberia Anti-corruption Commission and other broadcast antennas, as well as homes, entertainment centers (video centers), among others were affected.  In Sanniqueilie-Mahn District, Nimba County, over 30 people were reported to have been wounded during Wednesday night rain storm.

The victims are said to have been admitted at the government’s G. W. Harding Hospital in Sanniqueilie and local health centers also in Ganta for treatment for severe wounds after they were hit by pieces of roofing objects for roof tops.
