District#12 candidate battles inconsistency claims

Montserrado County district #12 candidate, Prof. Paye S. Gbelayan, reacts to claim that he’s inconsistent about his loyalty to a political party.Mr. Gbelayan was previously a member of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) but later joined the Liberian People Democratic Party (LPDP) before becoming a candidate on the ticket of the People’s Unification Party (PUP).

According to him, his position on issues has led him to move from party to party, specifically pointing to the CDC primaries in district #12, which he describes as characterized by controversies.

Speaking at the Foundation for Better Liberia or FOBEL in Gardnersville on the outskirts of Monrovia over the weekend, he explains that aspirants at the primary were told to carry 15 delegates each, but alleged conspiracy and compromise by CDC youth chairman Jefferson Koijii, LPDP Montserrado County Chairman, CDC district#12 Coordinator, and former CDC Lawmarker Dave Koomey turned the table against him.

“My own of 15 delegates were changed and allowed six delegates, and they brought six strange persons that I have never met before to be my delegates”, he laments.

He also details that CDC, LPDP, the NPP compromised the true picture of the election, terming the process as corrupt. Mr. Gbelayan continues that he cannot be members of a corrupt political party, indicating that this was his reason for leaving the CDC.

The PUP candidate is calling on residents of district #12, Montserrado County to elect him because he’s the best candidate in the race, arguing that he is the only candidate, who has track record of fighting corruption, having spent over 24 years in private sector development.

Gbelayan continues that when elected, he would put forth four bills that would seek protection for family homes, patient right to healthcare services, fight against corruption and provision of better education.
