Weah threads on familiar ground

President George Manneh Weah says his government will strengthen sports in the country, just over a week after the former Liberian international soccer legend took over the nation's highest office.

Delivering his first State of the Nation Address in Monrovia Monday, 29 January, the former World best player said during his time, sports will be strengthened for the better.

For some years now, sports in total has died down in Liberia, and for the past for four to five months the most populous of them, football, has been down the drain too.

Mr. his name as soccer king, he comes to prominence on the glory of the mark he made while playing around the world. But ahead of taking office, the football association national league has been down, joining the basketball federation league which is yet to resurrect since the beginning of 2016.

The Track and Field federation, Kickball Federation, Table Tennis Association, Maracana Sports, Beach Soccer, Volleyball and other sports has all been poor here.
