Pen-Pen Boys to Storm Executive Mansion?
This paper has gathered that commercial motorcyclists in Monrovia are planning to stage a public demonstration at the Executive Mansion, home of the Liberian Presidency to remind President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of promises made to them during her campaign in 2011 elections when she spoke at their (Motorcyclists) convention last year.
Sources said the commercial motorcyclists have resolved to mobilize about 1,500 of their colleagues in Monrovia to march to the Executive Mansion and present a statement to the President, reminding her of promise made to them.
However, the Secretary General of the Liberia Motorcycle Transport Union (LMTU) Robert Sammie, dismissed report of a planned protest as untrue, but added his men will go to the Office of the President to remind her that they are still around and she needs to fulfill her promise to the organization.
He confirm that the LMTU will mobilize about 1,500 motorcyclists to march to the President’s office and present a statement in a peaceful manner other than a demonstration as being speculated in some quarters.
Sammie recalled that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf promised to provide them land and construct Headquarters of the LMTU up to window level when she spoke at their convention during her campaign for re-election.
“She said she will give us land and at the same time start construction for our LMTU headquarters up to window level when she spoke to us at our convention last year; since that time, we have not heard or seen anything of such from our President,” he noted.
Sammie said people from the opposition camp who the LMTU never supported have started saying the president applied 4-1-9 scam tactics on them in order to get their votes.
He did not however name a particular political party or politician, but it can be recalled that the motorcyclists left former National Democratic Coalition standard bearer Dew Mason and other politicians and political parties in the cold and they pledged support for Madam Sirleaf’s second term bid.
Sammie believes the President has not forgotten completely about her promise to them. He is suspecting there could be some hands around the President and in her government, who do not like to see motorcyclists.
He said when the LMTU headquarters is constructed; it will be named in honor of President Sirleaf and will serve as training and capacity building center for motor bike riders and other young Liberians.
