1 Dead in Nimba Land Dispute

At least five persons have been reportedly arrested by the Liberia National Police following the January 30, 2012 land dispute in Nimba County.

Suspects Sam Zarkama, 66; Martin Paye, 37; Daniel Vokar, 62; Jackson Gborkiayee, 42; and Junior Larvela, 24, were allegedly involved in a shooting incident in Yeasorn and Korpi villages, respectively during the crisis in the county.

Police Spokesman George Bardue said one person was allegedly killed, while two others sustained serious injuries in the incident Bardue said 26-year-old Boy Randall and Richard Vokar, 53, sustained serious injuries and were admitted at the Ganta Methodist Hospital.

He said Melvin Maxim’s corpse was discovered in the bush near the disputed land with a single barrel gun and plastic bag.

Meanwhile, Police have launched an investigation into the incident on the crime scene. Bardue said the suspects are being detained at the Sanniquillie Police Station, awaiting further probe.
