13-year-old girl died of rape
A 13-year-old girl has died at the Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital in Voinjama City, Lofa County after she was allegedly raped by a 65-year-old man. According to the Liberia News Agency, the minor died two weeks after she was sexually abused by 65 year-old Amara Talawally in the Selega Road Community, suburb of Voinjama City.
Making the disclosure to reporters in Voinjama recently, Lofa County Attorney J. Luther Sumo, said medical doctors pronounced the victim dead at 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 27. Attorney Sumo alleged that the little girl died of multiple wounds she sustained as a result of being raped on three separate occasions by suspect Talawally.
The suspect has repeatedly denied the act, but following preliminary investigation by the Liberia National Police, suspect Talawally has been charged with Statutory Rape and subsequently transferred to the 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Voinjama for prosecution. Meanwhile, family members of victim are appealing to the government to speedily dispense justice in the case to punish the perpetrator.
