2 AML employees win theft case

The 8TH Judicial Circuit Court in Sanniquellie, Nimba County has brought down a not guilty verdict in favor of two employees of the mining company ArcelorMittal Liberia over an alleged thief of property and burglary charges levied against them by the Company.

Leo Combey and Eli Towalid, both heavy duty drivers, were accused before the court by the Management of ArcelorMittal on 19 November 2015 for allegedly stealing a hauling truck valued US$195,000.

The defendants had used the equipment ahead of its mysterious disappearance, prosecuting lawyer claims. But after hearing into the case, the court through a 12-member jury finally said the two accused were innocent.

Speaking to reporters last Thursday, 2 June after the verdict, public Defender Cllr. Robertson P. Mehn, called on Liberians and private investors to stop accusing their employees falsely; adding that the defense council will never join anyone to lie against peaceful citizens.

Leo and Eli after their exoneration by the Court told journalists that they would return to job and should not be considered by their colleagues as criminals as had been insinuated by the company.
