4,417 Textbooks Stolen from Education Ministry

Police authorities say they are investigating seven suspects forallegedly stealing 4,417 textbooks belonging to the Ministry ofEducation. In a release authorized by Deputy Police Commissioner Sam Collins, theLiberia National Police or LNP said on Monday, 17 October the 4,417textbooks were contained in 229 cartoons.

The Police Spokesman indicated that the men diverted the books, whiletransporting them from the main offices of the Ministry Of Educationon 3rf Street, Sinkor to the Ministry’s warehouse in Paynesville,outside Monrovia.

The seven men in police custody include suspects Alexander Brown, acontractor at the Ministry of Education; suspect Nelson Browne, theMinistry’s employee; and Collins Toe, an officer of JAS Security GuardService.

Other suspects listed include George Tomah, Aaron Sumo, Stephen Cooperand Isaac Botany.The men were arrested following a complaint filed by the Deputy Minister of Education, AagonTingba. They were alleged to have also stolen other items, which included 66 pieces of Liberian Flag and twobags of assorted school bags.
