WAEC Boss dismisses reports on WAEC results release

By Kruah Thompson

MONROVIA, August 5, 2025 – The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Liberia, Mr. Dale Gbotoe, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the 2025 WASSCE results will be released on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing, Mr. Gbotoe described the reports as false and misleading, noting that the results are not ready for release.

“There is a post circulating on social media stating that the WAEC results will be released tomorrow. We want to clarify that this is not true,” Mr. Gbotoe said.

He emphasized that the release of the results is part of a formal procedure that involves submission to the Ministry of Education and onward transmission to the Office of the President before any public announcement.

“We cannot make any pronouncement before informing the relevant authorities. We are working with MICAT to schedule an official release date. If the ministry gives us Tuesday, the results will be out by August 12; if they approve Thursday, then it will be August 14,” he explained.

Mr. Gbotoe further announced that the results will be published no later than Friday, August 15, and the official announcement will be made through MICAT’s platform.

He also addressed some technical challenges faced during the marking process, noting that several students failed to shade the correct areas on the answer sheets, leading to the rejection of numerous papers by the grading machines.

“Many students incorrectly shaded sections where the machine should have scanned, so we had to manually verify and correct these errors before processing the final results,” he added.

Mr. Gbotoe stressed that WAEC is 99% ready to release the results and reiterated the importance of waiting for official communication.

“We urge the public to rely only on credible and official sources. Any information about the results outside of MICAT and the Ministry of Education is inaccurate,” he warned.

Meanwhile, more than 180,000 students sat the 2025 exams, with the government covering the fees for approximately 53,000 senior high school candidates and 23,000 students at the elementary level.
