
Monrovia, Liberia; August 19, 2025 – The Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC) extends appreciation to Members of the House of Representatives, particularly the committee mediating issues related to rumors of same-sex marriage and disputes over United Methodist Church properties in Liberia.
During a public hearing, the LAC/UMC had the opportunity to present clarity and factual information to address misinformation being circulated by individuals affiliated with other denominations amid the ongoing property dispute.

The delegation emphasized that the LAC/UMC has already submitted all necessary documents and materials to the committee, chaired by Representative Jeremiah Garwo Sokan of Grand Gedeh County, to assist lawmakers in their investigation and serve as official references moving forward.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, former River Gee County Senator Comany Wesseh, reaffirmed the LAC/UMC’s unwavering commitment to the biblical definition of marriage, as well as to the laws of the Republic of Liberia.
Following extensive deliberations, the committee rescheduled another hearing for Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Recently, the Executive Committee of the Liberia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC) temporarily shut down the Stephen Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church in Monrovia.
A press release issued by the Executive Committee said the church premises will be sealed to protect life, property, and sacred space, pending an official investigation by the Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church into protest over rumor of same sex practice in Church.
