Monrovia, Liberia; August 21, 2025 – On August 20, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, met with Liberia’s Youth and Sports Minister, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu to strengthen cooperation and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries. Their discussion focused on youth development, sports, and vocational training, key areas that both nations view as foundational to mutual progress.
Ambassador Chengwu reiterated China’s unwavering support for Liberia, emphasizing Beijing’s dedication to enhancing cooperation.
“China has always been committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the fields such as youth affairs,” said Ambassador Chengwu, adding, “and is willing to continue advancing the continuous development of the China-Liberia strategic partnership.”
Youth and Sports Minister, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu, also echoed these sentiments, affirming Liberia’s enthusiasm to work even more closely with China, saying “Liberia is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in the above-mentioned fields, so as to deepen the friendship between the two countries and people.”
This reaffirmation of ties follows the successful completion of a two-week Seminar on Media Communication Capacity for Liberia, held recently in Changsha, China, which benefited 30 Liberian journalists and media professionals.
In a further demonstration of China’s commitment to youth empowerment and education, the Chinese Government, through its Embassy in Liberia, hosted a dinner reception in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs. The event celebrated 92 Liberian students, who headed to China on full bilateral government scholarships to pursue higher education in various academic disciplines.
Additionally, 172 Liberian students received the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, enabling them to complete their studies at institutions within Liberia, including the University of Liberia, the Confucius Institute, Tubman University, Cuttington University, and Bomi Community College.
The farewell reception for the scholarship recipients, held on August 11, 2025, at the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia, was a moment of pride and promise. Representatives from several government ministries, past scholarship recipients, and educational institutions joined in to celebrate the occasion.
During the event, the Chinese envoy expressed heartfelt congratulations to the scholarship awardees. The Chinese scholarship, in whatever form, is intended to enhance exchanges and cooperation, promote mutual understanding and friendship between China and Liberia.
It fully demonstrates China’s commitment to the China-Liberia strategic partnership and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
The Liberian government has applauded the continued generosity and engagement of China, calling the relationship “fruitful and impactful.” Officials also noted the return of a few Ministry of Education staff members with PhDs earned in China, a clear indicator of the long-term investment in Liberia’s human resource development, a move that has garnered strong support from the Liberian Senate.
