Gbarnga, Bong County, August 21, 2025: The World Health Organization (WHO), in partnership with the Ministry of Health’s Department of Blood Safety Program, has donated essential blood bank equipment to the C.B. Dunbar Comprehensive Hospital in Gbarnga City, Bong County.
The donation, which includes a blood collection and mixer scale along with a blood bank refrigerator, is aimed at strengthening the hospital’s blood services and improving its capacity to save lives.
Speaking during the handover, hospital administrator Mr. Enoch Kermue Darwolo Morris Sr. expressed profound appreciation to WHO and the Ministry of Health for their continued support to healthcare delivery in Liberia.
“This contribution comes at a critical time and will greatly enhance our ability to provide safe and reliable blood services. We assure WHO and the Ministry that these items will be used strictly for their intended purpose to improve patient care,” Morris said.
Health officials noted that the equipment will not only improve storage and preservation of blood but also ensure timely availability for patients in need, particularly mothers, children, and accident victims who are most vulnerable to blood shortages.
The donation forms part of ongoing efforts by WHO and the Ministry of Health to expand safe blood services across Liberia and reduce preventable deaths linked to the lack of adequate blood supply in hospitals.
Community members and staff of the C.B. Dunbar Comprehensive Hospital welcomed the gesture, describing it as a boost to one of the county’s most critical health facilities.
