Africare donates 24 bikes to Bong

Africare-Liberia has presented twenty-four Yamaha motorbikes to the Bong County Health Team. At the presentation of the motorbikes last weekend, the head of the Africare-Medical Teams International consortium told our Bong County correspondent that the donation was in line with the agreement signed with the County Health Team, with support from USAID and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

He added that the donation was part of the Essential Package of Health Services.  Dr. Gideon Tafara said with the provision of quality health services, especially for women and children, remains a very serious concern for partners of the Liberian Government in the health sector.

Dr. Tafara expressed the hope that their intervention would bring some level of improvement within the health sector in Bong County, assuring that his institution will continue to support the Bong county Health Team and identify its weaknesses for prompt intervention.

Bong County Health Officer Dr. Sampson Arzoaquoi, who received the motorcycles, was full of commendation for Africare and the consortium. He told our correspondent that the provision of the motorcycles was a relevant relieve to the Bong County Health Team.

According to Dr. Arzoaquio, the motorcycles will enable District Health Officers and officers-In-Charge at various health facilities across the county to effectively do supervision and make timely report to central officer, suggesting that health workers at various clinics will now be able to execute their outreach activities.

The County health officer added that with the donation, almost all of the health facilities in the county now have access to transportation. Following the presentation, the motorcycles were immediately presented to District Health Officers and health facilities in the county.

The cost of the twenty-four Yamaha motorcycles is in the tune of more than One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars. Last month, Africare and the consortium presented a fifty thousand United States Dollar-four door Toyota Land cruiser pickup to the County Health Team.
