Ailing man cries out for help

By Naneka Hoffman

An ailing man named Patrick Jarbah is pleading for help, lamenting that he has been battling against a strange and terrible sickness for three years.

This paper held an exclusive interview with the 30-year-old man Thursday, 11 May 2023 when he explained that he has not been healed of the sickness due to his financial situation.

Patrick Jarbah said doctors have identified the sickness as dyshidrotic eczema.

According to the United States-based National Eczema Association website, dyshidrotic eczema is a skin condition that causes small blisters on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and edges of the fingers and toes.

It says the actual cause of dyshidrotic eczema isn’t known.

Jarbah told our reporter that he did not know how he got dyshidrotic eczema, guessing that he may have eaten something that he is not supposed to eat.

Jarbah explained that the sickness started with a blister on his feet, and it spread to other body parts.

“It [doesn’t] really hurt, it makes my skin numb. It made my hands and legs numb, I can’t not feel from [them],” he said.

A resident of Duport Road Cow Field community, Last Junction, Jarbah explained further that the sickness started in 2020.

Over the past three years, he said has been trying to seek medical attention, but he lacks the financial strength for his medical care.

“I do everything for myself, but I tried other people, [and] they turned me down. So I decided to use the media so it can be a help to me,” he lamented.

Jarbah disclosed that he first went to the state-run John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center, and it said it didn’t see any sickness.

“Then I went to another Clinic, they said it was [an] infection. Then later I went to a clinic called God Medical Center located [in] Jacob Town, Rehab Community. They told me that [it is] dyshidrotic Eczema,” said Jarbah.

According to him, doctors said he ate something that was not good for his system.

He claimed that they blamed the illness on the food he ate. However, Jarbah said the doctors indicated that the sickness can be cured, he has to be on medication every month.

He said he is appealing for US$500 to pay for his treatment, urging the public to come to his aid.
