Alpha Oldtimers Tournament Kicks-Off In Paynesville

A two- day In House Football Tournament for members of Alpha Old-Timer Sport Association got underway on Sunday, February 7, 2010 in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

 

Four teams are participating in the tournament, which kicked- off at the Alpha Sports Pitch in Duport-Road. The participating teams are:  Willie Knuckles Hunters, Theophilus C. Gould’s Vikings, Musa Bility Lions and Samuel Striker’s Strike Force.

Speaking at the formal opening of the tournament, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Cllr. Theophilus C. Gould, admonished his colleagues to take the tournament very serious. He said this is the usual year-end tournament that failed to take place last year due to some technical reasons.

Though he did not state the actual cause of the delay, yet he was quick to note that this edition is going to be a special one.

For his part, the President of Alpha Old-Timers Sports Association, Musa Bility, also urged his colleagues to exhibit good sportsmanship. Mr. Bility admonished them to see each other as brothers and not enemies.

Speaking as he took the kick-off, the Alpha Old-Timers Sports Association President further urged members of his organization to at all time show respect for the match officials including the referees.

Meanwhile, Musa Bility’s Lions defeated Samuel Striker’s Strike Force 3-2 in a highly entertaining encounter while Theophilous Gould’s Vikings flogged Willie Knuckles’ Hunters 2-0. The tournament is expected to come to an end this Thursday with several exciting matches at the same venue.
