Liberia’s former Ambassador to the US, Mexico and Canada, Jeremiah Sulonteh has been petitioned by various auxiliary groups in Bong County to contest the Senatorial by – election.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) is expected to conduct Senatorial by – election in Bong and Montserrado Counties to fill two offices left vacant on the election of former Bong Senator, now Vice President Jewel Howard – Taylor and former Montserrado County Senator, now President George Manneh Weah in 2017.

Madam Korto Mulbah of the Women group, Christian Dolokpalah from the Friends of Sulonteh and Stephen Boca of the Birds of Ambassador Jeremiah Sulonteh read separate petition statements on behalf of their organizations on Monday, 2 April.

They say after series of meeting and consultations with their chiefs in the county, they have unconditionally decided to support the ticket of Amb. Sulonteh.

They say Amb. Sulonteh has contributed immensely to youth education and human resource development in the county and the country at large.

The petitioners add that Amb. Sulonteh has provided scholarships to more than one thousand students at various universities, colleges and vocational institutions across the country.

In response, Mr. Sulonteh accepted the petitions and told the citizens that he will be a formidable force in the pending senatorial by- election in the county.

According to Amb. Sulunteh, he is looking forward to see Bong County as healthy and educated county that will reconcile the citizens and bring the needed developments to the county.

He adds that the county has not experienced rapid development due to the inability of leaders to unite. The former Liberian envoy narrated that the only way the county will be developed is to forget about some of the things that happen in the past.
