The fourth edition of the Liberia Amputee Football and Sports Association annual tournament is expected to kickoff on June 19, 2013 at Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.

Addressing a news conference here on Monday, the President of the Liberian Amputee Football And Sports Association, Melvin Gotteh, revealed that Youth and Sports Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe will lead an array of dignitaries and sports enthusiasts for the official kickoff.

Gotteh said this has become possible due to sponsorship by the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), which provided US$5,000.00 with co-sponsorship from the West Africa Trade, donating six sets of jerseys, 20 bags of rice and US$600.

“NOCAL is not just a body that has been established to regulate our emerging cruel oil industry, but it is true national partner to Liberia’s social and economic actors” Gotteh said. The LAFASA boss praised Media Link international for the professional partnership forged with the Amputees Association to ensure a successful tournament.

He disclosed that the tournament is aimed at recruiting new breed of players to replace the current guys, whose talents are fading away as well as prepare the amputee national football team for a pending Nations Cup qualifier with Kenya.

According to him, the federation had set a target for US$25,000.00 to host the tournament, but could not get the amount and is on the hunt for US$10,000.00 to host Kenya in Monrovia for the qualifier of the African Cup of Nations.
