Amputees off to World Cup

Liberia Amputees National soccer squad Thursday morning left the country to participate in the Amputees football World Cup in Argentina.

This is Liberia’s second appearance at the event. The country first participated in 2007 and won the Championship title when it was held in Antalya. As defending champion, Liberia has been paired in group “B” against El Salvador, Algeria, Turkey and Ghana.

Haven hosted and won the African Cup of Nations on home soil in 2007, the Amputees soccer squad is featuring in the World Cup as both Africa and World Champion.

The Liberian delegation to the South American Nation is comprised of 14 persons, including long serving Sports Administrator Wortoh Anderson of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) and Liberia Amputees Football Federation (LAFF) President Barbara Ogunti among others. The competition is expected to take central stage from 1 – 6 November 2010.
