ANC applauds Nimbaians for support

Former presidential candidate and leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress [ANC] Alexander B. Cummings ends visit to Nimba County, thanking citizens for their support during the 2017 elections.


The ANC came fifth place in the first round of the elections, receiving 112,067 votes or 7.2 percent of the total valid votes cast, according to the National Elections Commission.

But the former corporate executive maintains that he would work with the opposition bloc here, including the ex-ruling Unity Party, Liberty Party and others to strengthen his party.

Speaking in the commercial district of Ganta, Nimba County, he says the ANC will remain engaged and become one of the best political parties in Liberia, adding that the party is not just being built around one person, but all Liberians in making sure the current government headed by President George Manneh Weah does the right thing for the Liberian people.

He hails Liberians for conducting themselves peacefully during the 2017 polls, noting that the candidate that eventually emerged victorious is the choice of the people.

Hundreds of citizens were in jubilation during the ceremony, expressing delight that the ANC leader was kind enough to go back to thank them despite his defeat at the poll.

According to them, this is the first in history for a politician who was unable to win election returning to the county to appreciate them.During the ceremony, Mr. Cummings donated forty-five thousand Liberian dollars (LRD 45,000) to the citizens in appreciation for their support to the party.
