Report from Grand Gedeh County in the Southeast of Liberia speaks of an outbreak of an animal disease, causing the death of hundreds of cattle daily in.
Correspondent Johnson Sharty in the region said as a result of the rate at which the disease was spread among and affecting cows, goats and sheep residents and owners of the cattle were harboring serious fears.
According to Johnson the disease was rapidly spreading to the various towns and villages in the county. Community health officials who spoke to our reporter warned of the urgent need for the Ministry of Health to intervene quickly before it got too late.
The health workers said because of the severity of the disease among the animals, probability of disease affecting human beings was high if intervention was not fast enough.
It can be recalled that about 5 years ago, similar disease broke out in the county affecting the cattle. The disease was contained following the timely intervention of the Health Ministry.
