An Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia has refuted and condemned in the strongest term, a front page banner headline story published in the Tuesday, September 13th edition of the Heritage Newspaper.
The story, under the headline: “For Brumskine Presidential Bid: Justice J’aneh Facilitates Political Meeting?” claimed that on 24 August, Associate Justice Kabineh M. Ja’neh facilitated a meeting on possible collaboration of the Liberty Party of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine and some ‘key’ opposition political parties in the country.
According to a release issued by the Office of the Associate Justice, the story further reported that the meeting took place at the residence of Cllr. Brumskine, citing key persons in attendance as Cllr. Brumskine, Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson, ruling Unity Party executive Mr. Musa H.A. Bility and Ben Sanvee, Chairman of the Liberty Party.
Justice Ja’neh’s office has, however, called on the publishers of the Heritage Newspaper to retract such story with the same prominence as it was published within twenty-four hours of the issuance of the release.
The release quoted the Associate Justice as warning that failure to do such retraction would leave the him with no alternative, but to consider all options legally available to him. The release further quoted the Associate as clarifying that at no time did Justice Ja’neh facilitate, cause to be facilitated or even participate in any such meeting on 24 August or any other day for that matter.
The release further stated that at no time has Justice Kabineh Ja’neh met with, nor conferred with the individuals mentioned in the story collectively at any location or for any particular reason, let alone political. Press release
