Basketball Coaches Undergo Training

A seven-day training course for 21 Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA) Basketball Coaches is taking place from 2 – 9 March 2010

The training course, which is organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), is the first for high-school Basketball Coaches in Liberia and eleventh edition since the last eight months.

The training is being facilitated by a Senegalese Basketball expert, M. Sano Seydou, who is also s an executive committee member of IOC.   He is offering lectures on the fundamentals of f Basketball, the new rules of the game among others.

Speaking during the opening of the course, Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) Vice President, Mr. Sylvester Rennie, urged participants to take advantage of the opportunity and sell the new ideas to be learned to their players.

 

Mr. Rennie added that the training is the result of the Liberia National Olympic Committee’s desire to strengthen the technical aspects of its various federations.

For his part, the chief Scribe of the LNOC and the President of ISSA, Joseph Willie, praised IOC/LNOC and the Liberia Basketball Federation for continuously organizing such training courses for Liberian Basket Ball Coaches.

He said learning is very important, and against this backdrop, he challenged them to take advantage of the e training. According to him, the initiative will enhance their capacities if taken seriously. 

Meanwhile, Mr. Seydou and officials of the LBF will today, Friday tour the Basketball Gymnasium currently construction at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City, outside e Monrovia.

The tour is aimed at ensuring that proper   mechanisms are being put in place for the successful hosting of Zone 3 FIBBA here.
