Bassa Community College benefits ADRA’s donation
The Grand Bassa Community College or GBCC, one of several community colleges across Liberia in dire need of professional textbooks for instruction has benefited from the Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA Liberia’s) nationwide books donation.
The GBCC benefited dozens of cartons of textbooks over the weekend when an ADRA Liberia delegation visited the main campus of the college in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
The gesture brought together the following people from ADRA Liberia, Education Program Coordinator, Philip V. Saywrayne; Project Officer, Philip A. Kaizer; Procurement Officer, Yeanee T. Kayfoair; and a driver Matthew Karfiah as well as the President of the Grand Bassa Community, Dr. Levi Zangai along with staff and students.
Books donated according to Mr. Saywrayne, are worth about US$5,000.
He named some of the subjects contained in the books as Algebra, Sociology, Chemistry, Physics and other books, adding that they are very expensive.
According to him, the books were received from ADRA International by ADRA Liberia and sent to GBCC by their country director through the delegation that made the formal presentation in Buchanan.
Mr. Saywrayne, who described the educational sector as a reservoir from which professionals are drawn, said if GBCC would be one of the institutions from which professionals will be drawn then the college needs requisite textbooks that will help in building capacities of students, who are seeking the achievement of higher education at the institution.
He stressed that the core value of ADRA Liberia is to transform lives of people in need, adding that the donation was one of those ways in which the institution is changing lives in Liberia.

He also noted that ADRA still has the intention of carrying the donation across the country to community colleges.
Receiving the textbooks, the President of the Grand Bassa Community College, Dr. Levi Zangai, thanked ADRA and said that the books will be used in two ways.
He said some will be placed in the library and others will be used as text books in the classroom, adding that the faculty committee council of the college will look at the books and send them to the various departments based on their usage
