Bility’s Strategy Works: Liberia’s Hope Revived
The worries of the Musa Bility-led Liberia FA may have reduced by now as a result of the Lone Star’s 1-0 defeat of cape Verde at the SKD Sports Stadium in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
What appeared to be his last strategy to revive Liberia’s hope for a place in Group A of the Africa Cup of nations qualifiers actually worked, though many Liberian soccer fans anticipated more goals during the 90-minutes of actions on Sunday at the SKD.
Blending a few former national team players, earlier recommended by veteran coach Josiah N. Johnson but rejected by the FA at the start of qualifiers, was the final option to restore some hope to Liberian football-and that actually worked on Sunday, as Francis Grandpa Doe’s lone goal in the 30th minute of the first separated the two teams at the end of full 90-minutes of play plus the 4-minute extra time.
Though the Liberia national team still finds itself at the bottom of Group A with four points below Zimbabwe’s five ( following their 2-1 defeat against Mali in Harare on Sunday), Sunday’s victory over group leaders, cape verde further rekindles their hope to press on for a spot in the group. This means the game against Mali in Monrovia later this year must be won with even more goals
As a prelude to such victory in Monrovia, the Lone Star must, at all cost, secure either a victory or draw against Zimbabwe in Harare.
