BIN boss warns aliensCommissioner Lemuel E. Reeves, Sr.

The Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) Col. Lemuel E. Reeves, Sr., has urged aliens here to comply with the Alien and Nationality Law of Liberia.

Commissioner Reeves gave the urge in an interview with reporters at the end of a meeting held with the alien community in Kakata, Margibi County recently. He emphasized that the law will take its course on those aliens, who will fail to comply accordingly.

The BIN boss said he has always held monthly meetings with the alien community to inform them about the Alien and Nationality Law, adding that these meetings are meant to educate aliens on the enforcement of these laws.

He disclosed that the BIN has a community engagement policy, which mandates it to meet regularly with members of the alien community to educate them on laws governing immigration to Liberia.

Commissioner Revees said, under the ECOWS Protocol, people are free to reside in any country of their choice, but that should be done in line with the law, adding; “That is why my job is to make sure the Alien Community in Liberia complies with the law.”

He said during the meeting, information on the processes governing naturalization or obtaining citizenship and how to live in keeping with the country’s law as well as what they could do to help themselves.

Col. Reeves added that in return, aliens in Kakata raised several burning issues to which he provided clarifications, including residency, obtaining Liberian Citizenship as well as how their wives and children could obtain legitimate documentation on their status here, among others.
