Blay Disappointed With Liberia’s Sports

The man widely acclaimed as Liberia’s all times best defender Washington Blay has expressed disappointment over Liberia’s failure to progress in the development sports, particularly football.

The sweeping defender said since 1936 when the country joined the global game it has not made any significant gain, urging stakeholders to redirect their motives about the sport.

“It is totally saddened that we are still running our national league on one stadium when we started playing football since 1936. I played on this same ATS more than 20 years ago, nothing new has come to fore,” Blade averred.

Speaking Sunday on behalf of Liberia’s veteran footballers during the official closing program of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) National League, the ex-Lone Star glittering defense minister shifted the country’s current status in world football to neglect by past and present national leaders. Blay noted that there is no plan by stakeholders of football and even national leaders to develop football and other sports.

“Our country just crafted a national policy that will guide the state in the next 18 years; I tell you, there is nothing in that document that speaks about the development of football or sports in general. That is a clear indication that our leaders have continually neglected the plight of the game. “

“How can you craft such future document and leave out sports, which is a pivotal tool in any development agenda; we are still joking in this country,” the former Lone Star defender added.
