Boakai raps diaspora Liberians

Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, has told Liberians in the Diaspora that they have a pivotal role to play in the development and advancement of Liberia. He said Liberians who live in countries around the world should not underestimate the significant impact they have made in supporting the growth of the Liberian economy.

He said Liberian living abroad have shown their love for country in a number of ways, including raising international awareness on the conditions in the Country; and helping to accelerate growth and development by holding governments accountable.

Vice President Boakai was speaking recently in Atlanta, Georgia (the United States of America), when he met with a cross section of Liberians residing in various parts of the United States, Canada, and Europe. VPBoakai, who arrived in the US at the start of the 6-day working visit, urged Liberians residing outside of the country to remain patriotic and never forget their roots and culture.

Speaking earlier, the President of the Liberian Community Association of Metropolitan Atlanta (LAMA), Mrs. Yahsyndi Martin-Kpeyei, thanked VP Boakai for his continued support and endorsement of the work of Liberians in the Diasporas. She said Liberians living away from the country remain loyal to their motherland and will continue to remain patriotic. She announced that the Joseph N. Boakai Liberian Community Center is being expanded to include a culture center that will celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Liberia.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Board of LAMA, Mr. Will Jallah, welcomed Vice President Boakai, and announced the launch of a food drive to fund the JN Boakai Community Center Liberian Heritage Center. He said it was important that Children born to Liberians in the Diasporas get an opportunity to enjoy and experience Liberian culture. He said the Center will be interactive research center and will showcase the latest in technology.
Vice President Boakai also pledged his support to the establishment of the culture center and commended Liberians in Atlanta for loyalty to Liberia.-Press release
