Bomi Gears Up for Next July ‘26’
Bomi County, one of the 3 counties in the western region expected to host next year’s Independence Day Celebrations, has earmarked 15 projects at US$800,000.00.
Bomi’s Project Management Committee (PMC) Chairman Roland Fahgon told the media at one of the project sites in Klay District last weekend that every project won by bidders was on the basis of the guidelines of the Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC).
He said the selection of contractors for the projects in county ahead of the celebrations was not without the involvement of the PPCC.
“As administrator, we must demonstrate to our people what we can do; therefore, we put into place every mechanism for those projects not to fail because we have our individual selves to protect and that of the county in particular,” he noted.
Though PMC has not started releasing funds to the contractors, an appeal has been made to central government to complement its efforts as the main host of the Independence celebrations.
“Because what we are about to use is from the county and social development funds, but we are hoping that the central government would beef-up our strength,” Fahgon said.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Samuel Brown has said that every household in the county is expected to pay L$500 plus foodstuff, including local rice as contribution towards the celebrations.

“Such contribution would be used to print souvenirs for the celebration and do a lot more because as the main host, everything must be done to achieve our goals in terms of preparations,” Browne said.
He, then, described the celebrations as the eye opening for the county as this would be the first time for Bomi to host the event. “Since we gained county status in 1985, we have not hosted such gathering expected to bring together both local and international guests to our people.”
Bomi, Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount Counties are designated as hosts of the 2013 Independence Day Celebrations, but Tubmanburg will be the central point of gathering and festivities.
