Several citizens of Bong County have expressed serious concern about the poor administration of the Bong County Technical College, especially in the wake of the refusal of its President to coordinate with authorities of Bong County.
Dr. John Flomo has become unpopular with key local authorities and Legislators of the county. At present Dr. Flomo is only accountable to Senator Jewel Howard-Taylor- the Focal Person of the College. Most of the citizens calling on a community radio phone-in show last weekend, described as wrongful, the decision by Dr. Flomo to ignore other authorities of the county, especially the county administration, in conducting the affairs of the college, further, accusing him of using the college to promote the Senatorial bid of incumbent Senator Jewel Howard-Taylor.
According to them, the action of College’s President undermines the true intent of the academic institution. Some also alleged that Dr. Flomo used the last orientation program of the Bong County Technical College to appeal for support to the senator and distributed her campaign calendars in the hall.
Pressure is being mounted on the BCTC President for outright refusal to the college’s Board of Advisors, days after Bong County Assistant Superintendent for Development Anthony Sheriff complained of lack of coordination from the college’s administration with the county authorities.
Amid this stance by Dr. Flomo, authorities of Bong County have refused to allow the withdrawal of funds from the County Social Development Funds intended for the college, our correspondent quotes reliable sources as saying. According to him, the decision is out of the fear that that the money may be used for Mrs. Taylor’s campaign since Dr. Flomo is an executive of the senator’s campaign team. When contacted for his reaction, Dr. Flomo said he was not available, and that he would do so upon his return to Gbarnga from Monrovia.
