Bong Halts Mining Operations
The operations of the company, MNG GOLD, in Kokoyah Statutory District, Bong County have been halted by the County’s Legislative Caucus with immediate effect.
Making the pronouncement in Gbarnga recently, Caucus Chairman Henry Willie Yallah said there was no Mineral Development Agreement or MDA company between the company and Government of Liberia, authorizing it to mine in Kokoyah District.
Senator Yallah noted that the Company has also failed to live up to its social responsibilities agreed upon by its predecessor, AMLIB Mineral, in the area.
The Bong County Caucus Chairman indicated that in order to avoid conflict, it was important for the company halt operations pending acquisition of an MDA from the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy before resuming operations, emphasizing that the company must do this in order to know its social responsibilities to the people of Kokoyah District.
The Bong County senator averred that the huge deposit of gold cannot be taken without any benefit in return to the people of Kokoya.
At a meeting held in the mining town of David Dean Town last weekend, the Bong County Legislative Caucus Chairman said for the company and citizens of the District to co-exist in harmony, its obligations must be made practically known to the people.
