Bong Police alarm over U.S. counterfeit banknotes

Bong County Police Commander Col. Fredrick Nepay has warned business people in the County to be on the watch for counterfeit U.S. dollars reportedly floating the market there.

Col. Nepay told journalists in Gbarnga, Bong County that criminals have put huge amount of counterfeit United States banknotes in the market, attempting to exchange for Liberian dollars.

He said those in the act have noticed that business people are eager in getting more United States dollars for foreign transactions, so criminals have taken advantage of the situation to flow the market with counterfeit notes.

The Bong County Police Commander disclosed that police have arrested several criminals with over US$300 counterfeit banknotes, adding that those arrested are currently in detention and will be sent to court for trial.

He called on residents of Gbarnga not to hide or collaborate with criminals, further warning that they are dangerous. He warned owners of hataye shops, especially in Bawulor Quarter Community in Gbarnga to stop screening movies at their shops. Col. Nepayesaid criminals at night gather at various hataye shops in the community to strategize under the pretense of drinking hataye and watching movies.
