Bong Sup. vows advocacy for nurses and teachers

Bong County Superintendent Ynamah Walker has assured her full support to advocating for better salary for nurses and teachers in Bong County and Liberia at large.

Speaking recently at the graduation ceremony of 20 students from the Baptist Missionary Physician Assistant Program in Gbarnga, Bong County, Madam Walker said it is regrettable to see people who save lives and build leaders of the country to be underpaid. She promises to work with all line ministries and agencies and other proper authorities and people to seek the best interest of the nurses and teachers.

Madam Walker observes that “nurses work under challenging condition to save lives,” adding that they work with people that have disease that can be transmitted to health practitioners if they are not careful.

But she notes that in spite of the sacrifices that nurse make, sometimes walking to and from work, they make small money that cannot even provide food for them for an entire month and sent their children to school.

“I think it’s not supposed to be so. They need to have decent salary for them,” she stresses. Touching on the case of teachers here, Madam Walker says teachers are also underpaid by government while working in a kind of poor educational environment.

She has pointed out that the president, ministers, directors and others would earn high salaries, but those who made them walk to work with a very little compensation.

Madam Walker assures further that under the “Pro-Poor” administration of President George Manneh Weah, she will advocate on behalf of nurses and teachers at the national level for better wages and benefits.

“I will work with our president, vice president, ministers of this pro-poor government to improve the salary of our nurses and teachers whose have been marginalized over the years. I will serve as an advocate for the nurses and teachers,” she adds.
