By Emmanuel wise Jipoh

A 17-year-old boy named Papie Dolo has died after allegedly consuming five bottles of an alcoholic drink called ‘Spirit’ in what was said to be an alcohol-drinking competition.

The deceased was said to be a resident of Rehab Community in Paynesville, Montserrado County.

According to residents, the deceased was a commercial motorcyclist, and also a student of the Norwah Larteh School in Electoral District #2, Montserrado County.

He and another person from the same community, yet to be identified, allegedly went to a nearby liquor shop and bet on drinking at least ten bottles of alcohol called Jägermeister which is locally referred to here as ‘Spirit.’

The community dwellers said Papie, challenged his counterpart and put up a bet with an amount of LRD2,700.

Papie’s opponent allegedly put up an iPhone 11 Pro-max as part of the bet to compete in the liquor drinking challenge.

As the competition went on, Papie was allegedly the first to begin consuming the alcoholic drink, but he allegedly started complaining that his stomach was hurting after taking in five bottles.

Papie reportedly told his parents about the pain in his stomach, but residents said his issue was taken lightly.

On the evening of Monday, 20 February 2023, residents said Papie’s parents realized that he couldn’t breathe again, and he died suddenly.

They said his body has been deposited at the Alfred Butler Funeral Home, in Mount Barclay, pending police investigation.
