Chief Karwor gets vote of no confidence

The National Council of Chiefs and Elders from 15 political sub-divisions of Liberia has cast a vote of no confidence in the leadership of Chief Zanzan Karwor, as National Chairman of the Council.

Presenting the resolution to lawmakers on Tuesday, 7 February at the Capitol Building in Monrovia, a Paramount Chief from Nimba County Franklin Toweh, said the official tenure of office of Chief Karwor had expired since August 22, 2016 in keeping with the law that governs the Council of Chiefs and Elders.

There solution also states that Chief Karwor is not duly elected in keeping with the enacted laws of the Council, and he has buried the image and integrity of the august body by not exercising the duties and responsibilities of the Council rather giving more credits and administrative functions in the counties to his own traditional Zoes.

The resolution noted that Chairman Karwor’s official term has expired since, but he was allegedly playing a double standard in calling for electionsof the Council. The document noted that inview of the foregoing circumstances, coupled with alleged financial malpractices by Chief Karwor, the Council was constrained to recommend his immediate resignation to give way for early election to be supervised and conducted bythe Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Elections Commission.

Also speaking, Paramount Chief Franklin Toweh saidthe election for Chairman is long overdue since August, and the onlything Chief Karwor is telling them is no money for election.  Hesaid with this resolution, they are not going to work with him untilelections are held. The resolution, signed by nine Council members from nine of the 15 counties, was received by River Gee County Senator Conmany B. Wesseh.
