Former Monrovia City Mayor, now General Services Agency (GSA) Director General Madam Mary T. Broh says she will work with City Mayor Jefferson Koijee to give the city a decent look.“We will make this city great again, and I mean I’m going to work with Mayor Koijee to get Monrovia to where it belongs in terms of beautification,” Madam Broh said over the weekend at the Theatre of the Monrovia City Hall.
Prior to being appointed to head the GSA, Madam Broh served as Monrovia’s Mayor during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson – Sirleaf.Her approach to clean Monrovia won praises, but there were some criticisms too because some people did not like her encounters with them.
A two – day solid waste conference was being held at the City Hall under the theme: “Building Synergy and Partnership for a Sustainable Approach Towards Solid Waste Management” when Mamda Brog made the promise.
The conference brought together stakeholders within the waste management sector including donors and it aimed at rallying the needed expertise, logistics, and synergy to address the rising solid waste challenges confronting Monrovia and its environs.
Madam Broh expressed disappointment over the turnout at City Hall, but she however extended sentiments to Mayor Koijee and his team for the wonderful work they are doing to ensure that Monrovia and its environs get a facelift.
“We have to reduce the waste and all of you here know how passionate it is to me to see this city clean,”she says.For her part, Montserrado County Superintendent Florence Brandy expresses delight over the conduct of the two days stakeholders’ solid waste conference.
Superintendent Florence Brandy however cautions communities to lead the campaign against garbage, stressing that improper waste disposal cannot be fought without citizens’ participation.
She pledges Montserrado County’s continuous support to working with its cities and townships to ensure cleanliness.
The Monrovia City Corporation has repeatedly noted that problem of solid waste or garbage management, if not handled with care, could soon become a national threat.The MCC wants commitment of all community dwellers as it seeks to to make Monrovia one of the cleanest cities in Africa, in line with acceptable environmental practices and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Meanwhile, the stakeholders conference targeted review and update of current solid waste disposal mechanisms as well as brainstormed on best practices and effective strategies for the sanitary well-being of Monrovia and its people.
