Buchanan: GoL/Arcelor Mittal joint hospital project gains momentum

The Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) says its implementation of the Buchanan Hospital project jointly funded by ArcelorMittal and the Government of Liberia is on course.
The project, currently under construction by Delta Construction Company, cost US$3.5 million, reflecting the commitment of both the Liberian Government and private sector’s commitment to improve the healthcare delivery system in Grand Bassa County.
LACE Executive Director Julius Sele, briefing the board of directors, said the hospital, when completed, is expected to serve as a referrer in the region’s several counties, including Rivercess, Sinoe, and Grand Kru.
The Buchanan Hospital project aims to strengthen the healthcare system in the region, ensuring access to quality medical services for thousands of residents in the region.

With its strategic location in Buchanan, the capital of Grand Bassa County, the hospital is expected to cater to a growing population that has long faced challenges in accessing modern and well-equipped healthcare facilities.
Delta Construction Company, a reputable construction firm, has been leading the execution of the project. The construction work encompasses modern medical infrastructure, including outpatient departments, inpatient wards, maternity and pediatric units, surgical theaters, and diagnostic facilities.
Executive Director Sele further said the facility reduces the travel distances for specialized medical care as the hospital will provide all these services.
Mr. Sele praised the partnership between ArcelorMittal and the Government of Liberia, terming it a strong public-private partnership that addressed the pressing healthcare needs in the country.
ArcelorMittal, as a key investor in Liberia’s iron ore mining sector, continues to demonstrate its corporate social responsibility through initiatives that contribute to the well-being of Liberians.
Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia, through LACE, remains committed to ensuring that development projects reach their intended beneficiaries.
The project is expected to significantly enhance regional healthcare, improving maternal and child health services, emergency care, and overall public health interventions.
As construction progresses, stakeholders, including local authorities and community members, have expressed optimism about the hospital’s impact on the region.
The Buchanan Hospital project, when completed, is set to become a beacon of hope, addressing critical gaps in the healthcare sector and setting a precedence for future infrastructure developments in Liberia.
