Carter Center Launches Project

Carter Center Liberia has launched its Enhancing Transparency and Good Governance through Increased Access to Information within the Justice and Security Sector Union.The launch of the Project -Project supported by the European, was attended by participants from the Hub counties – Bong, Lofa and Nimba. During the occasion, Superintendents explained the security situations in their respective counties.

The Carter Center Deputy Project Lead Access to Information, Alphonsus Zeon indicated that the project focused on the Gbarnga Regional Justice and Security Hub, where stakeholders share opinions on security and justice promotion.

Mr. Zeon added that it was important that issue of access to information be taken seriously, maintaining that if information is not properly disseminated, people tend to speculate.

According to Mr. Zeon, with assurances coming from county administrations from the three counties that they were opened to providing information to the public, it sends a clear signal to
citizens that their leaders mean well.

Members of various security apparatuses, in attendance at the launch, highlighted their challenges, especially as UNMIL prepares to complete its draw down.-Edited by George Barpeen
