CDC candidate concedes defeat

Ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) by – senatorial election candidate Rep. Josiah Marvin Cole has conceded defeat to independent Dr. Henry Tokpa ahead of National Elections Commission (NEC’s) final official results.

Later on Thursday, 2 August, the NEC announced Dr. Tokpa winner of the Bong County polls, while in Montserrado County, ruling CDC candidate Rep. Joseph continues to lead the polls against his rivals.

During a press conference Thursday, 2 August in Bong, Rep. Cole calls on his supporters to remain firm and await future elections.He represents Bong County District #3 at the House of Representatives and he has gone just over six months in office before contesting the senatorial by – election for a six – year mandate, the same number of years he has at the House.

Heavily backed by Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor for both the House of Representatives seat and the Senate seat, Rep. Cole boasts of remaining a major politician in Bong County.

He now places his hope on future opportunity, and says he is willing to work with whosoever that wins the election for the sake of the county.The Jorquelleh District #3 lawmaker states that his developmental platform remains his focus right now, adding that despite the result of the elections, he will work in the best interest of his people.

Rep. Cole has extended commendations to his supporters for the overwhelming support, adding that the results of the election is a clear manifestation that he is politically strong in Bong County.

He further promises to work with all members of the Bong Legislative Caucus in to ensure the necessary developments.Rep. Cole has at the same time extended commendation to his colleagues who contested in the just ended by senatorial election in Bong.

Five candidates contested the by – election in Bong, including former students leader Fairnoh Theo Gbilah; Businessman turned – politician Orando Kermine Zarwolo; former Cuttington University president Dr. Henrique Flomo Tokpa who leads the polls; Rep. Josiah Marvin Cole and little known Prince T. Kollie.
