CDC welcomes LACC report

The Congress for Democratic Change, Liberia’s main opposition party has welcomed the recent reports published by the Liberia Anti Corruption Commission or LACC, indicting several government officials here.

At a press conference in Monrovia on Sunday, the national vice chair of the party, Mulbah Morlu said it is frustrating for officials of government to consume the wealth of the country without any fear or authorization.

The LACC recent reports forwarded names of several officials of government to the Justice Ministry for prosecution, something that has prompted some of the officials to resign from government to contest in the special senatorial election next month.

The press statement further stated that several officials are in the constant habit of misapplying government resources with impunity. The CDC also calls on the Ministry of Justice to speedily institute court actions against the accused individuals based on the findings of the LACC.

The party cautioned the government against sweeping these findings under the carpet as is often the case, given that the nation has for a period alternated between stability and chaos, predominantly due to bad governance and corruption.

Meanwhile, Liberians in the country and in the Diasporas are also calling on authorities of the LACC and the Justice Ministry to fast track the prosecution process to avoid those indicted officials from getting into offices. The release said if those corrupt officials gain powers, they would evade prosecution.
