‘Certified idiot’

Opposition Liberty Party (LP) Stalwart Abraham Diarus Dillon has branded defeated Montserrado County District #11 Rep. Gabriel Nyenkan as a “certified idiot”.

“If you ask me I will strongly say that Gabriel Nyenkan is a certified idiot to allow President Weah to appoint him as head of LEITI Secretariat after serving as member of the 53rd National Legislature,” he said Tuesday, 20 March on a local radio talk show in Monrovia.

He argues that during the tenure of Gabriel Nyenkan as lawmaker, the issue of LEITI was raised and discussed in plenary several times. As such, Mr. Dillion says he expects Mr. Nyenkan to have gone back to President Weah to inform him about the laws of LEITI if only he wanted to stay in government.
But he wonders how a man who claims to be an educated person would not be aware of these things. Mr. Dillion says the warning coming from Global Witness over the LEITI official appointment saga is something that President Weah must pay keen attention to.

He says he is disappointed because the laws are clear and if the president doesn’t have the legal knowledge, Mr. Nyenkan who is a former lawmaker should be in the know of the law.

Global Witness issued a statement recently condemning President Weah’s appointment of Mr. Nyenkan as head of the Liberia Extractive Industries and Transparency Initiative (LEITI) Secretariat and the latter’s used of police force to remove Mr. Konah Karmo from office.

Global Witness says the removal of the former LEITI Head of Secretariat Mr. Karmo was illegal and demands the immediate withdrawal of Mr. Nyenkan’s appointment.

Concerning the pending Montserrado Senatorial by – election, aspirant Dillion says his intention to contest the election is not about having the position, but to effect the change that is intended to uplift the people of Montserrado County out of poverty.

Mr. Dillion calls on President Weah to declare his asset to get his cabinet members to follow his footsteps and to give citizens the clear picture of what he had prior to his ascendency to the presidency.

“Once President Weah declares his asset, you will find lot of government officials declaring their asset,” he says, adding that any failure on that will give the citizens the perception that Mr. Weah is using public money on his personal things including the building of his house.
