CHICO Workers plan Demonstration

Several members of the CHICO Workers’ Union have threatened protest actions against the management of the Company. The CHICO Workers are demanding the resignation of some officials of the company whom are it is alleged are not to be working in the interest of company’s co-workers.

According to the grievance committee chairman of the workers union, Mr. George Kormah and the workers union chairman Mr. Acquoi Sumo, their protest is in line with alleged violations of key provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Kormah and Sumo explained that health care, transportation of workers, timely payment of workers; among others are key components they are seeking redress for from the management.
The duo told NewDawn Bong County Correspondent that their protest will last until their concerns are fully addressed. It can be recalled that in early 2019, workers of China Hena International Company alas CHICO held a month long protest thereby bringing the company’s activities to a standstill.

”No one will work and nothing will be touched by anyone whither official or co-worker on the very day we will start to demonstrate” Mr. Acquoi Sumo told Journalists. When contacted, the administrative assistant of CHICO Mr. Zacchues Peal who recommended dialogue rather than protest told this paper that the management of CHICO will shortly host a meeting with the workers union.

On the manager’s resignation saga, the CHICO administrative assistant thinks it’s difficult, citing huge policies within the company.CHICO is a Chinese construction company that is currently constructing the Gbarnga to Salayea 81 km road project. The project was awarded to the company during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
