Chinese Envoy Cautions Liberians

Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yuxiao Zhou, is urging Liberians to be mindful of how they express their grievances on issues that confront them.

Ambassador Yuxiao wants Liberians to seek peaceful dialogue in addressing their grievances instead of violent means, which usually leads to the destruction of lives, properties among others.

Ambassador Yuxiao’s comments come in the wake of the recent violence in Konia and Voinjama, Lofa County in which 4 persons were killed, several wounded and properties, including religious edifices vandalized.

The Chinese envoy, who spoke Tuesday in Monrovia when the Liberia National Table Tennis Association (LNTTA) honored and certificated him for contributions to sports, indicates that violence has the propensity to cast negative aspersion on the gains made by the country.

“Liberians must help keep their own peace, something that must not be done in a violent manner. Although the presence of the UN peacekeepers in the country symbolizes that Liberians alone can’t maintain their peace, but they need to take a more peaceful approach in settling disputes,” he said.

Amb. Yuxiao Zhou encourages Liberians to use sports to promote peace and stability in the country. He says sports can be used to settle differences, adding sport is a unifying tool.

For his part, the President of the LNTTA, Mr. Lloyd Brownell, commends the Chinese envoy for the level of support given to his association. He then calls on friendly nations’ envoys to help the LNTTA in making it vibrant.
