Citizens raid ghettoe’s in Bong

A major drug raid to free Sergeant Kollie Town in Suakoko, Bong County from narcotic substances has taken place. Sergeant Kollie Town or SKT hosts the headquarters of the United Nations Mission in Liberia or UNMIL and the second largest crime reporting town in Bong County next to the capital Gbarnga.

The situation has always been largely attributed to the sales of narcotic substances, leading to the engagement of many young people in criminal activities to satisfy their habits. Several attempts by state security to discourage the sale of drugs in the town have proven futile, as residents continue to complain that drug dealers in the town were under the protection of the same

security officers in the county.

The failure of state security in Bong County to dismantle ghettoes in the area has left citizens and residents of SKT with no alternative, but to raid their town of drugs. During the Sunday raid, the Youth Chairman of SKT, Sam Lewis, told our correspondent that they were tired being surrounded by drug dealers, adding that those in such bad business were not from the town, but

settlers.

Mr. Lewis, who led tens of youth of the town to break down ghettoes, added that since this year, five young people have died as a result of taking in narcotic substances, maintaining that they would no more allow their children to grow in such unwholesome environment.

He added henceforth, they will ensure that drug dealers are no more given the opportunity to occupy any piece of land in the town, while warning other citizens providing accommodation for drug dealers to immediately desist. Mr. Lewis maintained since state security has failed to ensure that their town is free of drug, they have decided to take a non-violent citizen approach. It can be recalled that a few months back, citizens of SKT prevented Drug Enforcement Agency Bong County Commander Darius Paye’s vehicle from leaving the town, accusing him of regularly visiting drug dealers and extolling money from them for protection – something the DEA Bong County Commander has always denied.

Tens of other citizens, who did not directly participate in Sunday’s raid, were cheering the huge group of young people and town authorities for taking such step. There was no injury reported during the citizens’ raid.
