Citizens want C.B. Dunbar Hospital re-opened

Citizens have expressed concern over the closure of the C.B. Dumber Maternity Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County due to lack of electricity. The hospital has been without electricity since last week Saturday, which has left authorities there with no alternative but to temporarily shut down the facilities, waiting for assistance.

According to hospital authorities, the institution’s generators have broken down and they were encountering difficulty in having them repaired. The closure of the hospital, which mainly carters to pregnant women and children, has sparked public concerns with many arguing that it will undermine government’s effort to reduce maternal mortality.

Now resorting to the use of Chinese lights, the hospital is currently giving attention to only patients who were already admitted before the breakdown of its generators. Earlier this week, there were reports of criminal attempt on the hospital, but the authorities have put in place a tentative lighting system to improve security around the building at night.

There are reports that the Ministry of Health has promised to quickly provide a generator to get the hospital fully operational again but the promise is yet to be fulfilled. Many ordinary citizens who continue to call on community radio stations in the county stressed the need for quick response from central government to avoid the absolute closure of the hospital.
