Monrovia, Liberia, December 24, 2024 – Liberian People’s Party political leader and renowned human rights lawyer, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe extolls his former running mate, now executive director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Emmanuel King Urey-Yarkpawolo, for what he terms institutional progress, selflessness and united working environment within one year of administration.
Cllr. Gongloe, making a special remark at the EPA year-end celebration in Monrovia over the weekend, said he recommending his Vice Presidential running-mate to work in the government instead of himself is not a mistake, adding that they in the Liberian People’s Party believe in selflessness.
According to him, when President Joseph N. Boakia was President-elect, he (Gongloe) met with both the President and Vice President-elect, and told them that Liberians deserve better therefore, he should avoid recycling Ministers, a call he says was intended and is still intended, for President Boakai not to bring back old ministers into government.
Hope is based on today’s action. My vice running mate has given hope to you people and everyone. Consistent with the broom theory, you have united them and make this place clean. You have earned the respect of the Liberian people and the world at large. Just in one year, you have visited many countries. Your fruit at EPA is the most effective work at EPA. You have hold companies accountable. You made the EPA the number one administrative entity in Liberia. Your institutional progress and unity is unmatched.’’ Gongloe lavishes praises.
He notes the output of Dr. Yarkpawolo’s work and productivity is speaking for him, reflecting that when he selected him as his vice running mate, many questioned him but he knew that he has chosen a diamond from Bong County.
“Obviously, this is a prospective future President of Liberia. Liberians will no longer buy pig in the basket. I believe that Liberians are seeing his impact. He has a great future. The day Liberian people are wise enough to give power to good people, it will rise again. Better Liberia is possible. Institutional progress and selflessness work is what’s making impact at the EPA. Individual progress is never the way. I want to thank all the staffers for the support”, he expresses.
Cllr. Gongloe urges President Boakai to institute a young cabinet of young professionals which he believes will help him get votes in 2029, on grounds that young ministers, who have not tasted government before, will be willing to work diligently, honestly and transparently because they want to show who they are.
“LPP was the first to endorse President Boakai in the runoff. When the President proposed on making me Minister of Justice, I refused because I too am an old minister. And so, I recommended my vice running mate, who has not worked in government before. Moreover, he has a PhD in environmental science and so, I told the President to take him there and he will see the difference. I want to thank President Boakai for listening. I always check on my vice running mate because if he fails, I will be blamed. Your Deputy is progressive and so, I want to assume that he is progressive here too” he concludes.
