Congestion at Sanniquellie Central Prison

BY Thomas Domah/Nimba County

The Sanniquellie Central Prison in Nimba County is overcrowded with inmates, posing threat to their lives.

The New Dawn gathers that the facility was refurbished by UNMIL for only 75 inmates, but it accommodates a total of 289 inmates. Over 200 of the inmates are pre-trial detainees.

Speaking during the February Term of Court in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County, Resident Judge Cllr. Roland Dahn urged jurors to do away with tribalism in the dispensation of justice.

He said such practice has a propensity to hinder the Justice system in the country, warning “If court workers are involved in such activities, it will not help the court to speed up with Justice.”

The Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Dahn then urged staffers to be proactive by helping to dispense justice to all regardless of tribes, status or affiliation.
