Congressman Meeks: Liberia on path to recovery

The seven-man US Government Congressional Delegation visiting Liberia has lauded President George M. Weah for the progress Liberia has made under his Leadership of the country.

The Head of Delegation, New York Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks, who is also the US House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Foreign Relations, said Liberia is on the right path to recovery and development after years of war.

“We come in recognition of the 200 years of Liberia’s existence as you commemorate the Bicentennial and we pledge to work with you to ensure continued progress in the country’s development and democracy,” Chairman Meeks told President Weah.

Presenting gifts of Honor to the President, the US House Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Meeks also extolled him for his “hard work and accomplishments in pushing Liberia forward… in a better direction for all our people”.

Also speaking, the Congressional Black Caucus Chairperson, Joyce Beatty, reaffirmed the delegation’s support to Liberia, noting that the caucus is completely behind Liberia as it celebrates the bicentennial.

For his part, Representative George K. Butterfield of North Carolina admonished President Weah not to be bothered by divisive information as he continues his leadership of the country.

“We know that there are three kinds of negative information: misinformation, disinformation and malinformation” he said while outlining similarities with the fallout from the US Elections.

Earlier President Weah welcomed the US Congressional Delegation to Liberia and thanked them for the recognition giving the country as it commemorates the Bicentennial.

Weah recalled the strong historical ties between the US and Liberia and urged that both countries continue the engagements.

“We are always willing and ready to work with the US at all levels of government” President Weah said.

The President then provided answers to the questions raised by the members of the Delegation, ranging from the 2023 general and presidential elections, Gender Equality and Participation, Business and investments and Justice for victims of the Liberian civil war.https://thenewdawnliberia.com/congressman-meeks-leads-delegation-to-liberia/
